Tough cricket test for Under-17 side in Namibia

Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) chief executive officer, Girish Ramakrishana said the festival is an important tournament featuring tough teams, which will benefit Botswana players and coaches. A strong 13-member team leaves for Namibia on Sunday to face others sides from Southern Africa.

“I am very happy because this would be a good exposure for our boys as they will be playing against some strong teams and good players from Southern Africa,” Ramarishana said.

He is confident the squad, drawn from a pool of talented players, would acquit itself well. The squad is in camp at the BCA Oval.

Ramakrishna is impressed with the level of preparations ahead of the Namibia tournament. The squad has a blend of experience as most of the players have been involved at national level before.

“Most of our selected players are not new to the tournaments of such magnitude, as they have been playing cricket for some years now. That is why I am confident Botswana will be positively represented at this festival,” said Ramakrishna. He said the aim is to have as many young Batswana playing cricket. He is happy parents have been supportive of the team, coached by Obert Musiyamhanje and managed by Gaone Lesedi. The players return on August 30 from Namibia.

The squad has: Ogoletse Tshwene, Lahiru Perera, Thatayaone Tshose, Thabang Nshomane, Druv Musuria, Thabo Motlhabane, Leago Mogano, Gape Mere, Tshepo Phatshwana, Tumisang Nshomane, Obakeng Eyman, Rashaad Mosweu and Tumelo Molema.
