Court postpones G/North murder gang case

The matter, which is due to be committed to the High Court after assessing evidence to establish a murder, will be heard on September 19 before chief magistrate Linah Oahile-Mokibe. Standing in for Oahile-Mokibe yesterday, senior magistrate Goodwill Makofi postponed the matter and extended bail for three of the men.

“The first and second accused will remain in custody, whilst bail will be extended for the other three,” he said, adding that the two have other cases pending.

Previously the court learnt that the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had completed studying the evidence they had received from the police on June 11.

Prosecutor Goabaone Motlhagodi submitted that it could take a few weeks to complete the assessment before bringing the matter to court for committal.

Papers before court state that the men, Phemelo Tshelang, Lebang Thabo Ntesi, Gorata Sebego, Patrick Gaile and Mpho Mangwa, who are all residents of Oodi, on the night of August 28, 2013 at Gaborone North, killed Olebogeng Ramapulane.

On the second count, the five are accused of the attempted murder of one Liu Jian Hui. They allegedly beat Hui to a pulp, who was later admitted at Princess Marina Hospital. The police have since recovered the stolen items.
