Bots Race promises a day of fun

One of the event organisers, Chabo Majaha, has said that amongst other things they aim, through the initiative, to encourage riding as a sporting and recreation activity. The Bots Race also promotes fellowship amongst riders.  Majaha said horse breeders from all over the country have been invited to participate in the event. Furthermore, she said they are hoping this year’s event stands out from the previous ones because they have gone out of their way to reach a wide spread number of horse riding enthusiasts a nd horse owner; as well as build hype around the event to create public interest.

“The previous years have been a bit quiet, but this year we have gone out of our way to make sure that we reach as many people as possible. We have also upped the stakes and catered for families to be able to bring their children and enjoy the affair,” she said.

She added that the event will not just be about horses as they have also given upcoming fashion designers a platform to showcase some of their designs at the event. She said fashion designers will be judged and be awarded prizes, as will the jockeys and horse owners.

For his part, another of the organisers, Thabo Masolotate, pointed out that there will be six races, four of which will be for thoroughbreds and two for Tswana horses.

He added that the main contest will, however, be the 2000-metre race for thoroughbreds that will take place in the late afternoon.  He also said that there will also be an official gallop that will enable the public to enjoy and appreciate horses.

The event will be hosted at the Sebele horseracing track on August 30.  Tickets are on sale at the Gaborone West Youth Centre. These include; VIP tickets going for P250, regular tickets for P100 and children’s for P50.
