Khama�s mystery woman

Take his latest escapade  to Makgadikgadi Pans over the weekend, where he attended this year’s sky-diving event.  He arrived in the company of a smoldering, sultry woman, who was synonymous with his every move  throughout the event.  The two  later left the venue in the same vehicle, with Khama behind the wheel, accompanied by Thapelo Olopeng and a security detail.

Khama set tongues wagging in May during the Khawa Dune Challenge when he arrived at the event with the same woman. He was pictured by a local tabloid riding his yellow quad bike with the woman but her identity was never revealed.

Khama’s brother and Minister of Wildlife, Environmental and Tourism Tshekedi Khama revealed to Mmegi that the woman is Tshegofatso Mabeo, who is a physiotherapist in private practice.

Tshekedi was however quick to dismiss any romantic connection, noting that Mabeo was “just a friend” and nothing else. “She is not his girlfriend. She is just a friend. Just like Olopeng,” he said.

 Mabeo is the first known lady friend of the president ever since Dr Nomsa Mbere vanished from the picture several years ago. Khama was once set to marry Mbere, a dentist, before their relationship mysteriously broke down after Khama’s mother, Lady Ruth Khama’s passing on. It was widely known that Lady Khama was fond of Mbere and that Bangwato elders were engrossed in marriage negotiations. According to one Serowe elder who was part of the delegation sent to South Africa to meet Mbere’s parents, Khama stopped the marriage process after requesting a prolonged timeout to mourn his mother. “We later gave up after repeated requests to continue the negotiations were met by the same ‘I’m still mourning my mother’ answer,” said the source.
