The DPP’s dithering remains a mystery considering the fact that they received the final investigation report more than two months ago.

“The office of the DPP initially received the docket pertaining to the matter in May, the docket was then returned to the police for further investigations on May 22, 2014. The docket was subsequently received back from the police on June 6, 2014,” said the prosecuting authority’s deputy director Kabo Leinaeng.

“We should have concluded working on the docket soon,” he said.  Even then, “ In so far as the charge or what course of action to take we have not yet come to a firm decision but such decision will be made soon,” said Leinaeng.

Police said earlier following the incident, that Moroka had told them he mistook Danstar for a dog. It turned out that Danster had gone to Moroka’s farm to assist a friend who was working on a project. Based on what Moroka told them, the police initially charged him with the lesser offense of recklessness and negligence. Should the DPP go for the same charge, it would mean Moroka would have to answer for a charge of culpable homicide. The charge carries a maximum of two years or a fine or both.
