Peeping tom nabbed for idling

In his defence, Ezekiel Mosetlha pleaded with Urban Customary Court deputy president Patricia Radipati to forgive him and withdraw his case because he was a first offender and also a psychiatric patient.

When asked what evidence he had to support his claims, Mosetlha told the court that he could bring his medical certificates and medication before court.

He however told the court that he did not bring them to court as he left them at the prison when he was detained.

Mitigating, he also pleaded with the court not to send him to prison as he was taking care of his girlfriend, child and his old and frail mother.  He told the court that he would never repeat the offence. The court learnt that Mosetlha was arrested by Gaborone Central Police station officers who were on patrol on August 9,2014.

According to the police, they saw the defendant peeping in some yard in Extension 12 and Extension 10 near the University of Botswana (UB) where they followed him to see what he was up to.

According to Detective Constable Morake, they got suspicious of the defendant after seeing him peeping through two yards in Extension 12 where he hid when cars passed by.

He said that they followed Mosetlha who later went to Extension 10 where he repeated the action. “We then decided to interrogate him as we suspected that he was up to no good.

“After we introduced ourselves to him and asked him what he was doing at that hour since it was 2am, he failed to account for what he was doing.  He also told us that he did not know anyone in the area, so we arrested him,” he said. Morake continued telling the court that the accused told them that he peeped into the yards to see what was in them. Radipati accepted the defendant’s mitigation.  However, she sentenced him to a month imprisonment, suspended for a year as long as he does not repeat the same offence.
