The two performers were joined on stage by the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) band.

Phuthego, a man who already has two poetry albums under his belt, serenaded the crowd, playing with words in Setswana.

The ever-energetic Maxy, clad in the Botswana colours dished out some of her old hits, much to the appreciation of the crowd, who were eager to find out who will reign supreme on the night, and walk home with an award.

ACHAP board chairperson, Joy Phumaphi, said that all the 19 people in the shortlist would be recognised for their excellent work and dedication to ACHAP.

“We hope that this recognition will serve as one piece of encouragement to all of us as we take steps on the journey of life.

Through these awards, we celebrate the leaders of our country, and as ACHAP, we reaffirm our commitment to creating the leaders of tomorrow by partnership for a healthy Africa,” she said.

The outstanding employee of the year award went to Mmama Mhlanga, while Tirelo Ditshipi of Midweek Sun was the best in the media category. Orange Botswana scooped the top honours in the best corporate sponsors category.
