BCA launches volunteer initiative in Kweneng

BCA development officer, Obert Musiyamhanje said the volunteer initiative was launched in Shadishadi and Sojwe in the Kweneng district recently. Teachers in these villages will benefit from the presence of the volunteers.  Additionally, volunteers will attend cricket courses such as umpiring, introduction to cricket and HIV/AIDS awareness programme.

The volonteers are Tsholofelo Sephiri, Kemmonye Gaseitsiwe, Ponatshego Garemoitse, Gosego Sandy Gaelebalwe and William Otukile.

“We organised a four-day program targeting five volunteers who will assist the two village during all cricket activities,”Musiyamhanje said.

The first two coaching sessions were conducted at Shadishadi and attracted 80 children. The session focused on fielding skills, which includes catching, throwing and ground fielding.Musiyamhanje said in each and every session, games were played to make sure that fun and enjoyment were part of the session. This, he said gave the volunteers and children a better understanding of the cricket skills.

The volunteers and children were also taught batting and bowling skills, which he noted that are the most challenging to learn.

In Sojwe village, Musiyamhanje said volunteers met 30 children who have been playing cricket for a long time and have a better understanding of the game. “Thirty kids, both boys and girls attended the session in Sojwe, and all of them are part of the Kweneng zonal team,”said Musiyamhanje.

“A specialized bowling and batting session was conducted in the form of group coaching. One group was managed by a Level One coach and a teacher at Sojwe Primary School, Gaone Lesedi. The volunteers easily understood the skills because they were working with children who have the knowledge of the game,” highlighted Musiyamhanje.

Musiyamhanje said the volunteers are already hands on as they helped them during the regional games that were held in Molepolole last week Sunday.
