While confirming that they have engaged a consultancy to assist the party with strategies of winning this year’s highly contested election, the party has denied that the company is Nikuv International Projects, a secretive Israeli company specialising in rigging elections for the ruling parties in Africa.

BDP secretary general, Mpho Balopi was unwilling to disclose any information about the company. Strangely Balopi said they would only announce the consultant company after the elections. He claimed that he does not know when the company started operating at Tsholetsa House and the number of the strategists the party has engaged. He however, confirmed that the party is paying for the consultancy.

According to sources, some of the recommendations made by the consultants to the party leadership include engaging temporary campaign teams that will be reporting to the members of Parliament at a branch level, regular visits to constituencies by the party leadership, and opening of campaign call centers. The regional office has been tasked to operate 24-hour call centers on the eve of the election.  One BDP source revealed that the consultants are not only working in the BDP office, but they are touring each constituency. The consultants are said to be working around the clock to ensure that the party wins more than 75 percent of votes.

“They will help us to know where we are doing wrong and how we can improve. Remember that we are even targeting constituencies that have been won by opposition parties. Our aim is to redouble the resources that we have in those areas,” Balopi said.

Balopi denied that intelligence personnel have been deployed to Tsholetsa House to assist the consultants’ carry out their mission and gather intelligence.
