“The latest information shows that it’s behind by six percent, an improvement of 10 percent,” he said.

The tender for the upgrading of Tonota- Francistown road to dual carriageway standard was awarded on August 31, 2012.

The contract started in earnest on October 17, 2012 and it is supposed to be completed on November 8, 2015.

Francistown mayor James Kgalajwe said that the latest report from the Department of Roads showed that progress, which was by now supposed to be at 58.4 percent, sits at 52.2 percent.

“That means it is now only 6.2 percent behind schedule. This translates to 9. 8 weeks,” said the mayor.

The mayor revealed that delay was caused by relocation of Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) pipes and Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) underground and overhead cables.

The relocation of 43 Somerset East residents to Gerald Estates as well as the overflooding of the Tati River was other reasons for the delay to finish the upgrading of the road.
