Addressing a Kgotla meeting in Maun on Tuesday, headmaster of Ghanzi Senior, Batshidi Tsae explained that a total of 575 students are repeating Form 4 and would resit examinations next year.

He said the students will commence their lessons on September 3, but before then they will be taken for counselling at their former school.

The counselling exercise, to be undertaken by professional counsellors, will be conducted from August 18-22.

Then, the students will be transported directly to their adopted schools for an orientation.

He said the students have been enrolled at Madiba, Good Hope, Maun, Shakawe and Ghanzi senior secondary schools.

Shakawe will take 99 male students, Maun 145 students comprising of 24 boys and 123 girls while Madiba will enroll 80 students made of 40 boys and girls apiece.

Good Hope will take 202 students comprising of 152 girls and 50 boys will while Ghanzi will take 45 boys only.

Tsae said due to accommodation shortage at the respective Shakawe and Ghanzi girls’ hostels, only boys were enrolled at the two schools.

He explained that due to a projected increase of student population at the adopting schools, the ministry has organised porta cabins for extra classrooms.  Tsae also explained that survey and maintenance works have been undertaken at the schools to ensure they are in a condition to take extra students.

He said the water shortage problem at Shakawe Senior, which is believed to have contributed to the woes at the school, has been addressed.

Tsae said MoESD has drilled a borehole to exclusively supply the school.

He said at Maun Senior, the school management has been changed to solve the problems that engulfed the school last year.

The school was affected by an array of problems such as demonic acts where dead dog flesh and a cobra head were discovered within the school premises.

Students complaining of teacher-students love affairs also burned down a block of classrooms.

He said Madiba is also ready, as new hostels have been built at the school.

Concerning the recent diarrhea attack at Good Hope, Tsae said parents should not be afraid, as the problem has been solved.

Tsae also explained that all the 575 students would be transported by government to all the five schools from their respective home villages at the start and end of school terms.

He also said parents will not pay school fees for their children as they have already paid when their children were at Shakawe Senior.

However, he revealed that parents are expected to buy their children school uniforms and toiletry. For their part, parents welcomed the government decision to give their children a second chance.
