A fresh start for Fresh

Although he demonstrated artistic promise as a performer Fresh’s career seemed overshadowed by his cousin’s, Frank ’Franco’ Lesokwane.

Since diverting to jazz, Fresh now feels a lot at home and insists he was destined to be a jazz musician.

Before co-founding Rhythm Mates with Elija Molosankwe, William Rankaba, Letlhogonolo Nkitseng, Boikobo Ntsima, Joseph Barwabatsile, Rapelang Sebogwa and My Star 2014 winner, Boikanyo Sejallolwane, Fresh opened Jazz Brew clubs in Ramotswa and Mochudi.  He would host a number of local and international performers.

“As you might be aware, when I disappeared from the scene some years back I had started selling fruits and veggies.  From that I managed to raise money to open Jazz Brew clubs.  These clubs mostly play jazz music and I was somehow hooked in the process,” he said.

His last Rhumba album was released in 2009 and he admits that it did not do well.  He attributed the album flopping to market saturation.

“I still like Rhumba, but I think it is a calling for me to do jazz,” Fresh said.

Playing jazz, he said, made him more content with himself as a musician.

Although Rhythm Mates are yet to record their maiden album, Fresh believes the band is destined for ‘greatness’ as all the members are passionate about music.

The band has been performing at some cooperate events.

“We have gained enough experience as a group since our formation a year ago and we will soon be in the studio recording our debut album,” he said.
