Shanay bounces back with Tleke Serowe

Shanay, who had gone into hibernation after the release of the Autograph mix tape, said the track title refers to a common attention-grabbing laughter in our society.

The artist has moved away from traditional hip-hop and has used a different sound on the single. The song is a fusion of tribal house, with hints of hip hop. He features Vivite Boys and traditional artist Spencer Kemaketse.

“After the hit track Morwalela, which didn’t receive impressive radio coverage and only became popular through YouTube and Btv, I sat down and contemplated a style which would work. I ended up with a modern tribal sound, but didn’t want to leave out the hip hop flair,” he explained.

The track can be downloaded from YouTube, and Cyclone Cypher. The video will be released next week.

Shanay pointed out that he plans to release an album in the near future. “I now want to release an album that is solid, with preservation of culture and evident creativity, and complete it with an element of hip hop. It must have the consistency of Morwalela.

The aim is to elevate from this level yet maintain the same style,” the 2007 BOMU hip hop album nominee said.

Shanay worked with several local musicians like Zeus, Juju Boy and Spizza for the Autograph mixtape, which includes tracks like Ke Dirile Madi and Strawberry Milkshake.

The project has elements of hip-hop and R’N’B, with varying degrees of success. The ten-track project was crusted marked a new phase in his music career.

The 2004 My African Dream finalist is convinced diversity is a sign of growth.

He released his debut album, The Hip Hop Shower in 2004.
