The CFG only have power to disqualify Montsho from the Games following her positive test for banned stimulant methylhexaneamine.

However, if found guilty at her hearing, Montsho will be referred to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and other relevant authorities for further sanctions.

A local anti-doping expert said Montsho still has a chance to escape punishment.

'She can accept the outcome and face punishment or appeal. But she can also argue if the substance she took was supplied by her local athletics body or an accredited official, be it a coach or manager.

'But the new rules are clear, in case she consumed the substance unaware through the association, whoever supplied the product will be punished,' the source said.

Regarding punishment, Montsho faces two-years on the sidelines although the sentence could be lighter.

'It depends on circumstances. First time, young offenders usually get light sentences. They also consider the number of years the athlete has been a professional,' the source said.

There was no immediate comment from both the BNOC and Amantle Montsho. Both issued statements this week saying the athlete will not be available for interviews.
