Injury-prone Ngele kicks his heels on the sidelines

The Township Rollers linkman has been nursing a persistent knee injury, which has frustratingly kept him off the field since February.   The senior Ngele was injured the first time last year while warming up before a Kabelano Cup match against Extension Gunners.

This saw him miss almost the entire first round of league action.

He only played a few games for Popa towards the end of the first round as well as the Top 8 encounter against Mochudi Centre Chiefs.

Ngele resumed training last December but the injury recurred in February during a league match against BDF XI.

Since then, he has not featured for Popa-popa as he has been battling to recover.

He underwent treatment in Rustenburg, South Africa where he did light training at younger sibling’s club, Platinum Stars as part of his rehabilitation.

The attacking midfielder has been told it will take long to fully recover and that he must not rush himself back.

Apparently, his knee ligaments were not damaged, as the injury only affected the muscles.

Ngele admitted his lack of game time is frustrating his desire to get back on the field of play, but he praised his team for being supportive.

He said it is touching because this is the final year of his contract with Rollers and yet they still look after him.

“I still want to play for Rollers,” Ngele stressed, perhaps as a way of showing his gratitude to the club’s benevolence.

The 27 year-old former BMC midfielder and his younger brother, Mogakolodi burst on to the scene at now relegated Uniao Flamengo Santos where they formed a deadly combination and made the team a force to reckon with.

At some stage, through their efforts they took Santos to the Coca-Cola Cup finals.

But at Rollers, due to the injury, Godfrey has not been able to produce the magic.   However, at 27, much is still expected from him as far as football is concerned.
