Action between Notwane and Rivals, GU on Saturday

Notwane made their intentions known as early as the first half.  Kgomari Mothuba netted the opener  in the 10th minute from a corner kick. The goal brought confidence in Notwane camp and they looked dangerous going forward. Few minutes later  Notwane nearly doubled the lead, but Emmanuel Machinya attempt narrowly missed the target.

The midfielder ‘s  13th minuteeffort was rewarded though.  GU defence looked disjointed and were given a hard time by Notwane attackers. They failed to make any threatening moves forward with the absence of Ronald Chikomo clearly visible.

Notwane continued to launch attacks and Pako Gaofose saw his header go over the cross bar. GU coach, Rahman Gumbo made changes in the 25th minute and introduced Chikomo. Osego Gaotewe was able to pull one back for GU in the 32nd minute.

In the second half GU came back strongly after the introduction of striker, Tendai Nyamadzawo. They put Notwane under immense pressure in search of the  equaliser. Nyamadzawo quickly stamped his authority and his combination with winger, Madla Mgadla kept Notwane on the back foot. GU got their equaliser in the 49th minute through Mgadla.  A minute later, Kgololo Kgogobi took a  long-range shot, but his effort went wide. Mgadla also had a shot at goal moments later but Notwane goalkeeper, Ituemeleng Selapa parried the ball away.

Notwane introduced  Thato Mogorosi for Lemogang Maswena and they took control of the match once again. Machinya scored the winner for Notwane in the 77th minute after realising that GU goalkeeper, Philip Nhete had left his spot.  Notwana assistant coach, Moshe Moseki told Monitor Sport that they  came into the game as under dogs and did not believe they could walk away with maximum points. He said the win is a motivation going forward especially that they are in the process of building a new team with youngsters.

For his part, Gumbo admitted that his side was not in the game the first half hence the quick goals they conceded. He explained that it was the first time his players played together and with time they will gel. He said there was no need to panic because it was the first league match.
