Previously Mascom Live session hosted South African based muso Lira, Zahara , Hugh Masekela amongst others. First to serenade the crowd that had flocked the event on a windy Saturday night was local Jazz sensation, Kearoma Rantao.

My Star finalist Peach accompanied Rantao fresh from Texas, where she participated at the just ended AFRIMMA awards on stage.

Towards the end of her set the songbird clad in peach gown that revealed her curvaceous body, was almost in tears when socialite and friend, Zenzele Hirschfeld surprised her on stage with a bouquet.

Hirschfeld told Rantao that the gesture was an appreciation for her nomination as the first Botswana jazz artist at the awards. Although Rantao did not clinch the award Hirschfeld said that this was an achievement in that the world now knows there is “ Kearoma Rantao in a country called Botswana.”

Narell also known as “man of steel” was joined on stage by Zimbabwean born guitarist Mhlanga. Narell and Mhlanga performed an hour long set o a mixed reaction crowd. The duo combined the African feel and the American touch for the first time in Botswana soil. Most of the attendants who were on their seats most of the night where not shaken by the duo’s performance, although some were dancing and taking pictures of the artist most remained in their seats the rest of the night.

Mascom Live Sessions has been running since 2011 and the initiative was stated to provide a bigger platform for local artists.
