During his launch at Lentsweletau as an independent candidate for Lentsweletau/Mmopane constituency, Pheto said he has observed of late that every time he fulfills his duties as an area MP, going around the village addressing residents the DIS are always in the midst snooping around and even taking pictures while hiding in their cars. He told his cheerful supporters that he was surprised that the DIS agents are sent to follow him around his constituency adding that he was not aware of what they are looking for or expecting him to say.

“I realised that I am often followed by the DIS agents and I recognised that they were taking pictures of some of the speakers I normally travel with therefore I decided to return the favour and take their pictures too,” he said.

Pheto said if being followed by the DIS agents was a ploy to deter him from carrying his parliamentary duties in his constituency, it was not working as the people of Lentsweletau still believe in him.

He further told his supporters that being followed by the DIS agents comes after he was offered a position of an ambassador immediately after losing in the Botswana Democratic Party primary elections earlier this year.

“I did not accept the offer because unlike many I do not support corrupt acts and I did not only think about myself as an individual but I thought of my constituency and those people who were with me,” he said.

He advised residents that came in numbers to support him that he has always advocated for change in Parliament and had challenged the status quo of how some things were conducted, which made him an enemy to many.

An independent candidate from Maphasalala constituency in the Mahalapye region, Neo Magowe, launched Pheto who uses the sign “Tshukudu” and the sky blue colours.

Pheto’s launch was also attended by independent candidates from Gantsi, Thabiso Kebadirile, Batho Motukise from Kumakwane, and Molepolole.
