UDC youth vow to bar BDP speakers at UDC leaders funeral

Motswaledi will be buried today in Serowe.

Segokgo said their heckling of BDP leaders yesterday was a sign that they are not supporting the decision reached by both their party leaders and Motswaledi’s parents to include BDP members in the programme.

“We are still hurting on how the BDP treated Motswaledi.  “Remember they wanted to lock him up in prison. Again they never wanted him to contest for Gaborone central constituency.

“The passing of our leader, Mk Motswaledi, presents our people with a difficult and yet unavoidable question of whether our systems of governance are designed to serve the interests of our people or a few ruling party elites,” Segokgo said. At the height of his court case with President Ian Khama, he owed his advocates over P300, 000 and they (advocates) applied for civil imprisonment only to be saved by Batswana with financial contributions to settle the debt.

Segokgo said they do not have a problem with the former two presidents Festus Mogae and Sir Ketumile Masire.  He added that in fact, they are the ones they want them to speak about Motswaledi as they have been treating him like their son.

However, the UDC youth leader said they will also not allow Botswana Congress Party (BCP) leader Dumelang Saleshando to talk because his party betrayed struggle by pulling out from the UDC. Segokgo said they will not divulge their plan on how they are going to act to block party leaders from speaking.

Meanwhile UDC leader Nehemiah Modubule said he does not believe that the youth will act the way they did on Wednesday at the funeral.

“I do not think that different party leaders will be given an opportunity to talk at the funeral.  “If it might happen that they do speak,  then we will observe on how our youth behave.

“We will be there and ensure that the situation is under control. They will listen to us,” Modubule said.

He said the reason why their youth behaved the way they did yesterday is because they are hurting about the death of their leader.

On Wednesday, things took a dramatic turn for the worse when Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri took to the stage at the national stadium.

The youth who were sitting in the stands forced their way into the stadium angrily chanting, “Bring back our Sir G! Bring back our Sir G!”
