The poet, who had her second solo performance titled Breathe last Friday evening at Maitisong, delivered a show stopping performance that had poetry lovers exhillerated when all was over and done with.

The wordsmith put on her first show earlier this year in March titled Falling, which was equally successful. Leshie could better be defined as a combination of soul sisters like Lauryn Hill, Asa, Nneka and Laura Izibor all in one person.

The poetry powerhouse awed the audience as she recited her poetry and spit a few rhymes in between her performance.  This showed her versatility, as her transition was smooth. The stage setting that included butterflies, flowers and swings, depicted the tone of love, which Breathe actually revolved around.

Leshie’s outfits also reflected the theme of love

Her attire for the first set wore a bright dress adorned with flowers; while for the second set, she wore a long, flowing red dress.

Each set lasted about 30 minutes. Although she maintained her rapport throughout her performance, the poet outdid herself when she recited I Took A Boy, which is one of her signature poems.

In between the punchlines and rhymes the audience went crazy as they joined in the poet and her supporting team as they closed the show with the powerful deliverance. Before calling it a night, the poet cleared the air with the audience and stated that although the poem says that she took a boy from a certain Omphile, it was purely fiction and the imagination of the writer within her.
