BFTUs Condolences

Comrade Motswaledi has been a pioneer of change in our national politics. He has courageously dared to venture where many dared not, for long. He Championed and led the first ever breakaway from the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), in its 50 year history.

He went on to become the President of BMD and later, Secretary General of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), an alliance with a Leftist Botswana National Front (BNF) and a Pan-Africanist Botswana People’s Party (BPP).

He showed rare attributes and values of governance and leadership, which, when not upheld by his former party, opted to champion them elsewhere. He branded both the BMD and UDC.

To the thousands of workers under BFTU banner Motswaledi has been this fearless, selfless, confident, prudent, astute, articulate, humble, simple and hardworking individual who did not run away from battle. Who can forget his eloquence, and articulacy in both English and Setswana to ensure that his message reached his target audience?

A rare talent has this country bred and unfortunately lost untimely. Many had high hopes for the rising star in Comrade Motswaledi. Many believed and hoped he would play a key role in shaping our national political landscape, particularly in the outcome of 2014 general elections.

Motswaledi has laid a firm foundation for the BMD and the UDC as well as the entire opposition politics in our country.

He has fought for the realisation of democracy and good governance by putting those in power continuously on their toes. His contribution will forever be remembered by all in the opposition and the ruling party. We urge those who remain to take cue from Comrade.
