Speaking Showtime, the excited modelGaotsenelelwe said it has always been her dream to make her country proud and going to compete in Johannesburg will give her the opportunity to do just that.

“Although I grew up as a tomboy, I only realised that I was actually good at beauty contests after being crowned Miss McConnell, which was where I did my high school,” she said.

She added that she decided to nurture her skill. All this was paid off when the young woman was crowned Miss Tourism last year.

Although Gaotsenelelwe did not win the title at national level, she did her best to represent the country well in Equatorial Guinea.

The young woman also represented University of Botswana in Swaziland earlier this year for the Miss Intervarsity where she was placed in the top 3.

“Pageantry for me is a passion that I have fallen in love with and want to pursue and go somewhere with.

I believe in making a mark wherever I go, and I am more than determined to reach my goal of winning at national level and putting my country among the other best countries in the world when it comes to beauty contests,” she said.

Speaking to the organisor of the pageant, Boikanyo Phenyo, said Miss Heritage is a beauty pageant designed to celebrate beautiful and the diversity of cultures.

“Miss Heritage enhances development for universal heritage promotion, preservation and protection, by the use of national heritage beauty queens as ambassadors for the greater,” she said.

She said although Miss Heritage is new pageant to Botswana, they wish to establish it and pledge with relevant companies to help them reach their goal of promoting the country’s heritage around the world.

“Okavango Delta has since been listed as a worldwide feature and I believe we stand a great chance of winning this year,” she said.  She continued that Gaotsenelelwe was chosen based on her experience with beauty contests and the fact that she was Miss Tourism last year.

“She was the perfect candidate as she is familiar with heritage things and has at some point represented the country as Miss Tourism.

Apart from all that, she has the look for it and she is one of the most humble women, which is what Miss Heritage is all about,” she said. Gaotsenelelwe said she is hopeful that she will scoop the crown because she has been preparing well for it.

“The competition is in December, but I have started practicing for it.

I have been researching on our heritage sites so that I do not stumble when I am asked questions.   Our country is blessed with so many talented individuals and I am going to prove that I am one of them,” she said.
