Boitekanelo College relocates to new campus

The college Principal, Isabella Magetse, said construction of the premises started in October 2012 at the launch of the new campus.

“Phase 1 of the campus, which comprises of the library, auditoriums and the cafeteria is 100 percent complete, while phase 2 of the construction comprising of the Admin block is 98 percent complete,” she said, adding that the construction of a big Multi-Purpose Hall will begin soon, leading them to phase 4 of the project.

The new campus includes state-of-the-arts classrooms, which are more interactive with skills labs.

Magetse acknowledged that not all has been glitter with the planned relocation of the seven-year-old college, as there are some challenges that lie ahead for them after moving.

She said that one of the major challenges is that the new campus currently does not have access to public roads and transport.  As such, Magetse said that this would bring difficulties to the students as most of them rely on public commute.

She said that they have engaged the transport department to plead with them to improve the situation in every way possible.

Located in the peripheries of Tlokweng village, issues of security and accommodation will also add to the new challenges.

“We are already in touch with police officials to assist on how we can beef up our security,” she said.

One of the staff members, Dr Kgosi Bodiba, thanked those who contributed towards the establishment of the institution and its new campus.

Among the guests who graced the event was the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Olebile Gaborone, who is also the Member of Parliament for the constituency.

Gaborone thanked Boitekanelo College management for establishing a health institution so as to produce indigenous health professionals.

“I am happy that 90 percent of our faculty members are locals,” said Gaborone.

Magetse said that Boitekanelo boasts of unique health programmes, which are in line with the demands of the market.  She added that they have a high absorption rate of their graduates, as the college is the first privately owned health training institution in Botswana.
