Kgafela loyalists attend Davids launch

Among those who attended Davids’ launch on Saturday was the famous former teacher, Moagi Molebatsi of Mangana mophato and Chicken Montsho and a high number of tribesmen and women usually seen at Kgotla meetings. Kgatleng West MP Gilbert Mangole, who never misses Kgotla meetings, also came to support his fellow UDC candidate.

Davids, who was launched in a well-attended rally at Notwane shopping complex is a well-known Kgafela supporter. He is also one of the tribesmen who were elected by morafe and the chief to go and hunt for a leopard for Kgafela’s installation as Bakgatla paramount chief in 2008. Kgafela used to be Davids’ attorney before he stopped practicing.

In fact, in his acceptance speech after being officially launched by UDC president Duma Boko, Davids did not hide his support for Kgafela.

“Mong wame rona re masiela mo Kgatleng, (my leader, here in Kgatleng, we have been made orphans” said Davids adding that the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has chased away their chief.

The UDC supporters responded with ululations as Davids explained to Boko the pain that Kgafela’s forced departure has left in the village. He appealed to Bakgatla to unite and fight for their chief’s rights. Davids said that a body cannot function without a head and that it is very imperative that Bakgatla fight and see to it that Kgafela returns.

He has urged Bakgatla especially the youth to vote for him in the coming general elections, as he needs no introduction in local politics.

For his part Boko said that he knows Kgafela well and that he was once his student at the University of Botswana. Boko too shared the same sentiments with Davids and Mangole that Bakgatla should fight for their chief’s rights. He said that the UDC supports Kgafela on his call for the abolition of the Botswana Constitution.

Mangole said that when UDC takes over, the first issue to attend to is to discard the current Constitution. He said they would ensure Kgafela returns to lead the constitutional reforms.

“When we take over in October, we will bring back Kgafela and it is UDC’s wish that all government’s cases against him be withdrawn,” promised Mangole.

“We will formulate our own Constitution, not a fake one that Batswana were not consulted,” added the MP to a cheering crowd.

For his part Goodhope-Mabule parliamentary hopeful James Mathokgwane declared his public dislike for President Ian Khama.  Mathokgwane said that when UDC takes over, “the first issue is to take Khama and his lovebirds to court”.

He said he would do this by tabling a motion in Parliament that Khama and the Director General of the Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS), Isaac Kgosi be investigated.

Among other things Mathokgwane said that Khama has engaged Botswana Defence Force (BDF) soldiers to build a paradise for him at Mosu at the expense of government.
