The world is descending into chaos and anarchy

Are we at that ‘turning and turning in the widening gyre’ stage where the ‘falcon cannot hear the falconer,’ where ‘things fall apart, and the centre cannot hold? Is the world becoming un-governable?   Normally our gatekeepers, Domkrag sentinels: His Excellency the President of the Republic, Ian Khama or his best man Honourable Phandu Skelemani, make a racket when they spot war criminals, genocide-inclined rulers loitering near the world’s bolted gate, nor does the duo hesitate to dispatch foreign envoys unceremoniously, if they believe the countries they represent are trampling on human rights in their part of the world. We remember how HE lambasted brother Muammar Gaddafi of Libya, sent the ambassador sprinting across the borders;  Assad of Syria wasn’t spared the tongue-lashing, while the Sudanese president, a fugitive from International Criminal Court justice,  was threatened with a night or more in the Gaborone lock-up, if he ever stepped on the sands of Botswana. 

I have no record of the president of our Republic raising Cain, when Israel rains collective punitive missiles on the people of Gaza  strip, which some perceptive writer aptly called ‘Bantustan Gaza!’ It isn’t the first time Israel bludgeons the pint-size Gaza. Our president is compassionate as you know. He opened the Gaborone 2 Youth Games with the solidarity call, ‘Bring back our girls ’ in memory of the abducted schoolgirls in Nigeria. His Excellency did not name and shame the abductors, Boko Haram. I think he should have called out, loud and clear for the world to hear, that Boko Haram was the villain of the piece to be denounced as outcasts in our world of peace and tranquility. Boko Haram is the people’s enemy to be routed in the world of a united human race. Abductions and bombings, the trademark of Boko Haram should have no place in our world.

While in Nigeria, let us decry the disgraceful act of His Excellency Goodluck (inappropriately so named, instead of Badluck) Jonathan for a cowardly remark he uttered when asked whether he would visit the area where the abducted girls were sighted.  ‘Badluck’ Jonathan was reported to have declined to appear near the place where the schoolgirls were sighted, quipping, “”Do you want me to die?”  My! What sort of leader is this Goodluck /Badluck Jonathan? Political leadership confers duty to die for the people one leads, isn’t that so?  As president, he is the Commander-in-Chief of the army. If he fears to tread where the abducted Nigerian girls are held captive, who does he think has obligation to do so? Boko Harram has declared an open war on Nigeria, on Goodluck/Badluck Jonathan himself, on innocent, defenceless  Nigerian youth who depend on the Nigerian leadership for security ; Jonathan should fall on his sword or step done .

What is happening on our planet? And why? Boko Haram in Nigeria, Al Shaabab in Somalia/East Africa, Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the ISIS in Iraq, Al Qaeda all over the world, the Western-backed  Syrian Rebel Army in Syria, Jihadists wherever you turn; ‘What rough beast its hour come at last slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?’ Is the world becoming anarchic and ungovernable? This isn’t  time for men and women on this planet to bury their heads in the sand nor their snouts in the feeding troughs nor allow their senses to be submerged in the twin curse of corruption and riches. It is time to think hard, choose leaders who aren’t for personal aggrandisement, leaders who value peace and the common interest of humankind. Why is a large segment of humanity across the global spectrum, angry, disgruntled, warlike, contemptuous of life, unfriendly, vicious, unforgiving ? Why is Khama, the angel of mercy tongue-tied while the Gazans are massacred?

I may be wrong . From history, I trace the current ferment and world turmoil on the absolute power enjoyed by the USA!  When the world was bipolar, coexisting in the cold war - the ideological war between capitalism and communism , the scales were more or less in equilibrium. The two superpowers feared the risk of war that could lead to the annihilation of both superpowers, devastate the earth and render it uninhabitable. Since cowboy Ronald Reagan ‘ordered’ Gorbachev who complied to ‘tear down that wall’(Berlin Wall), US has become the sole dominant power, bullying smaller nations to reform themselves in her image. The world lives under US dictatorship! Forget the assertion that the world is composed of sovereign and equal nations.  No, the Yankee is lord of all she surveys, craving Middle East oil riches where her surrogate Netanyahu is doing his best to out-Hitler Hitler!

The Middle East has become, potentially a spark likely to ignite world war III due to the collusion of the  US-brat, Israel and her mentor, US. Jihad, suicide bombing , universal Al Qaeda menace, its product, is born of Arab desperation in the Middle East seeking redress for appropriation of their homeland by the Jewish state claiming the ‘right to everything.’ The collective punishment of the Gazans by Israelis, where fatal casualties stand at over 1,000 to 40,while the superpower gleefully nods, is noteworthy. US –Israel axis hopes in vain for abject Palestinians surrender. Forget it! Remember the lesson from Vietnam! US lackeys in the world should advise America to stop! The Human spirit for justice is irrepressible. Any-way  Why is Khama so uncharacteristically silent while the world castigates Israel and US complicity, for war crimes in Gaza?
