Sankoyo rope in Zim coach

Sankoyo public relations officer (PRO), Thato Molosi said they consider Mabhena who has been working in his home country, to be the right man for the job.

 He said the Zimbabwean tactician comes with extensive experience and has coached Mogoditshane Fighters before.  He has also been the development coach for South African side, Bloemfontein Celtics.  Molosi described Mabhena as a coach who is passionate about development.  He said this is why they were interested in him because they have a youthful side.

Regarding new players, Molosi said they will sign this week, including some from Nico and TAFIC. Molosi said they have been training hard to prepare for the season and they are keen to stay afloat. The official said they have been playing friendly games to prepare themselves.

The club recently hosted a tournament in Maun, featuring Premier League side, Orapa United among others.  He said some of the players they have signed have Premier League experience though 80 percent of the squad that successful negotiation qualification is intact.

Molosi said most of the players are youngsters who have a bright future.  “The boys are so excited.  We have been training for more than a month in readiness for the Premier League,” he said. 

Molosi said the support of the Ngamiland community has been overwhelming. However, he bemoaned the lukewarm backing from the business community. Molosi said they would appreciate if the business community supports the team. 

Meanwhile, the club is courting Maun transport companies to help cushion the expected impact of the high travelling costs it will occur in honouring fixtures. Molosi said they have approached companies to give them 50 percent fare discounts.

Alternatively, they have suggested that the transporters provide a vehicle, which the club will fuel. Molosi said they are still talking to a number of companies and might struck a deal before the league kicks off.

 “To tell the truth, we don’t have an aircraft as some people have been saying. We wish we could have such a sponsorship,” he said. Sankoyo mark their Premier League debut with a home game against Motlakase at the Maun Sports Complex on August 8.
