He told residents of Molepolole constituency over the weekend at a well attended launch which was held at Bophirima Primary School that people who are peddling lies about them are jealous of their relationship. The launch, which was colourful, had attracted people from both outside and within the village. Some came in two buses and combis.  All those who came to support him wore T-shirts written “GUS”.

“I am the one who recruited GUS to BDP and again he is younger than me. What will we be fighting for? It is only that some people are eager to find us fighting so that they capitalise on it,” Kwelagobe said.

He said residents of Molepolole should know that he is in good terms with Matlhabaphiri and they always consult each other when the need arises.  “Ke kopa gore Rre Matlhabaphiri o dire a star rally ke te go bua le batho.”

The guest speaker at the launch Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi who is also the Member of Parliament for Serowe South constituency said DK and GUS only differ when debating party issues.

She said members do agree or differ when debating party issues but it does not mean that they are not in good terms.

“That is why it is very important to also reconcile with those we had wronged during Bulela-Ditswe elections (primary elections). Primary elections are very important to our party because they enhance democracy. But we should know that we need one another after elections,” Venson-Moitoi said. She requested BDP members to realise that elections are no longer easy like before therefore it is important that they make peace with other disgruntled members.

She said if they do not do that, then they will give opposition parties a chance in their area.

She described GUS as a dedicated man who is submissive to his party and who fights for civil servants welfare.  “The reason why he is in a labour committee in our party is because he protects workers welfare and fights for their rights.  BDP has the workers interests at heart but our problem only arises when some workers want to be used by politicians,” she said.

For his part, Matlhabaphiri pleaded with Molepolole residents to cast votes for him and his councillors. He said he could only make it to parliament if they vote for him.

He also had an opportunity to reward some BDP elders with t-shirts with his name and a BDP badge.  The crowd was entertained by DJ Timmy, Vee wa Mampela who was dressed in red and Motlhakola choir.

Matlhabaphiri’s constituency is one of the highly contested areas. He had won the 2009 elections with a slim margin. The BDP was voted for by 5,595 while the opposition Botswana National Front got 4,914.
