Break-in at DIS office

Yesterday, intelligence sources in the northern city said unidentified suspects had broken into the DIS offices, which are situated next to the Francistown Police headquarters, and gained access to a sensitive records management unit.

“Apparently nothing was stolen from the office. It would appear this could be an inside job as the offices are guarded around the clock.

“Common criminals would also have been discouraged by the proximity of the police station,” one source said.

Other intelligence insiders in the city said they did not rule out the hand of rival agents from neighbouring Zimbabwe, which has a well-established spy organisation known as the Central Intelligence Organisation.

Reached for comment on the incident, Francistown Station Commander, Superintendent Lebalang Maniki, said he had just taken over the office from his previous station in Tlokweng and was unaware of any break-in in his area.

“I only commenced work this week (Monday) and there have not been any reports of burglary in my policing area,” he said.
