New twist in Rollers ownership feud

The development comes after reports that Shah might land the BPL board chairperson’s post.

The disgruntled supporters indicated in the letter that David Mmui is the chairperson of Township Rollers. This means he is the rightful person to represent the club at the BPL board

The supporters’ lawyer, Sibanda, said at first they thought the reports were misplaced since Shah was not even Rollers’ chairperson. He said they later realised the reports might be true, which is why they wrote a letter to Shah and copied it to the BPL, the Botswana Football Association (BFA) and Rollers’ secretary. Mmui has served in the BPL board in the past but was suspended after allegations that he had borrowed money from the club without the approval of the board. Mike Molefe was roped in following Mmui’s suspension but the position will be vacant when his term ends this weekend. Sibanda said if Shah is elected board chairperson, he will wait for an instruction from his clients to remove him because only chairpersons of clubs can represent their clubs at the board.

However, Rollers’ spokesperson, Bafana Pheto said it is not true that Mmui is still the chairperson of the club. He said the club held its annual general meeting where Walter Kgabong was elected chairman. He said Kgabong was and still represents the club at the BPL board.

Meanwhile Rollers will unveil its new players, sponsors and new kit at a launch billed for the UB Amphitheatre on Sunday. The launch will start at 1 pm when the club is expected to parade new players, including Otlantshekela Mooketsi and Segolame Boy.

Pheto told Mmegi Sport yesterday that the technical team is assessing a Kenyan striker. “The coach has indicated that he needs a striker and he is still assessing one striker from Kenya.

Hopefully a decision will be made before the launch on whether he is signed or not. If he signs, he will be unveiled with other players,” he said. Pheto said they expect to reveal new sponsors as well as showcase new replicas for their supporters. Coach, Madinda Ndlovu will address the supporters on his mission for the new season.

Rollers are still waiting for a response from the Labour Department regarding Manqoba Ngwenya’s work permit. The club has appealed a decision by the department to reject an application for a work permit from the South African striker. The player joined Rollers from Notwane in the middle of last season. He played a number of games as Rollers clinched the league title.
