Masters future uncertain after fallout with Sebego

Already facing mounting criticism over his competency, Masters was reportedly summoned by Sebego over his performance.

But both deny reports of bad blood.

“My relationship with the CEO is good. He is a good listener, which is a good attribute. I am generally happy with his performance,” said Sebego. He added that he did not care about friendships, but working relationships. Masters professed ignorance when quizzed about the sour relations.

“That is absolute rubbish. I have nothing but admiration for the president. When you work in an environment, there are always differences. I respect his opinion even if at times I prefer that things are done differently. But to say we do not have a good relationship is rubbish,” Masters said. But sources maintain the relationship has sunk to new lows and for the first time since the Englishman arrived, Sebego is prepared to show him the exit door.

However, other sources suggest Sebego wants to see Masters improve his work rate so that he can remain at the helm.

“But indications are that he will not last the full distance with those close to Sebego suggesting he will fire Masters. The president has asked him to up his game and Masters took that well,” a source said.

Meanwhile, Sebego batted away allegations that technical director, Ben Kgomela and national team coach, Peter Butler are not on good terms. Reports of strained relations between the two technical brains have surfaced but Sebego has dismissed this as the work of idle minds.

“I attribute this to idle minds. As far as I know, the two work well together,” Sebego said. Meanwhile, Kgomela travelled to Rustenburg, South Africa to ‘sweet-talk’ Platinum Stars into releasing Kabelo Dambe for the second leg AFCON qualifier against Guinea Bissau next weekend. The Zebras lead 2-0 from the first leg and will be without all South Africa based players as the match falls outside the international FIFA dates.
