As financial woes for the first citizen owned milk-processing plant worsen, on Wednesday, the workers took to the Industrial Court after having gone without salaries for the past two months.

In an interim ruling issued by Justice Tebogo Maruping at the Industrial court, Delta Dairies has been ordered to appear in court next Tuesday to argue its case, failure to do so the company would have to settle the outstanding P661,545.09 salaries by July 31, 2014.

“A rule is hereby issued calling upon the respondent to appear and show cause on Tuesday 29 July 2014 thereafter as the matter may be heard, why an order should not be granted in favour of the applicants for payment of withheld wages for the months of May and June, 2014,” states the interim ruling.

The judge issued the ruling upon hearing from spokesperson of the applicants, Tirelo Danga, and Herman de Lange, the chief executive officer of Delta Dairies.

The ruling has also been served to the Citizen Enterprise Development Agency (CEDA) who are indicated to be 98.5 percent owners of Delta dairies.

The first citizen owned dairy company has not been producing milk constantly since September last year leading to serious financial difficulties. The company started operations in 2008 after receiving funding from CEDA through the Venture Capital Fund.
