The resolution to amend the constitution was adopted at the part extra ordinary congress that was held over the President’s Day holiday period.

The BCP congress resolved that it shall have 30 percent women representation in the central committee and will include chairpersons of regions, president of the Youth League, and president of the Women’s League.

It will also include five additional members chosen at the elective conference and five additional members appointed by the central committee at its first meeting.

The new amendments empower the central committee to expel a member from the party.

The central committee will establish and constitute the following standing committees; the policy forum, international affairs committee, political mobilisation committee, elections committee, the finance committee, and the marketing and communication committee.

It shall have the power to delegate its powers to such officers, committees and sub-committees and upon such terms as from time-to-time it shall see fit.

Also if a standing committee is dissolved then a new committee shall be elected in accordance with its constitution.

Some of the resolutions that were adopted at the congress include the readiness of the election, with every region expected to submit a monthly report on the campaigns to the party.

Meanwhile, BCP president Dumelang Saleshando has given all candidates up to end of August to launch.  He said by September, members should be doing house-to-house campaigns followed by star rallies.

“I will be touring all constituencies that are contested by women, youth and people living with disability to find out how they can be assisted.

The party has agreed that we will double our resources to help them tow in their constituencies,” said Saleshando.
