Man fined for labelling woman a witch

The two reportedly had a heated argument on July 15, 2014, which culminated in Maebe brandishing Moabi a witch who had killed their neighbour’s child.

In his defense, Maeba blamed alcohol for his conduct and claimed to have little recollection of what transpired after his drinking spree on the day.

He pleaded with the court not to jail him as he is a breadwinner and his children and girlfriend would suffer if he were jailed. Kooitsewe accepted his mitigation and cautioned him against being controlled by alcohol.

He also warned him to never accuse anyone of witchcraft as it is against the law in Botswana, adding that he must respect elders. Maeba was slapped with a P50 fine.
