Monarch East councillor, Mpuang and the constituency’s parliamentary candidate, Moswaane, were at each other’s throat during the run-up to the party’s primary elections as they both fancied themselves Francistown West parliamentary candidates. Moswaane is the former Monarch West councillor.

However, at Moswaane’s weekend launch, Mpuang openly embraced his former rival and promised his full support in order to win the constituency.

At the podium, Mpuang said while rumours of bad blood between him and Moswaane lingered, he was not only on good terms with the parliamentary candidate but was actually helping him to campaign.

“I am fully behind Moswaane and I will offer him my full support in making sure that we win the constituency for the BDP. This area belongs to us (BDP) and I will make sure I work hard to attract electorates to the party, “ said Mpuang, addressing Moswaane.

Mpuang said the misunderstandings that were caused by the primary elections were now “a thing of the past” and he was ready to work with his former nemesis to win the constituency.

Earlier this year Mpuang told this publication that Moswaane did not involve him in issues of the party, accusing him (Moswaane) of holding party meetings without his knowledge.

At that time, Mpuang said he thought Moswaane still doubted his trust, loyalty and commitment to the party. Reached for comment yesterday regarding the latest gesture, Moswaane said as “a man who has faith in God”, he would not entertain doubts “like the biblical Thomas”, but would accept anyone who pledged their support to him.

“The primary elections were not meant to cause lasting misunderstanding between candidates and I am happy that we have reconciled,” he said.

He went on to say BDP candidates should learn not to carry the frustrations of the primary elections into the general elections, as this would divide the party and hand opposition parties victory.
