Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) fixtures and publicity secretary, Sumod Damodar told Mmegi Sport the team has already started preparations for the tournament. He said the team trains during weekends and plays practice matches with other junior teams.

“We have a challenge of practicing during the week because of the school calendar since most of our girls are in school” said Damodar. He further said they knock off late and it becomes impossible for them to attend practice sessions.

Other countries that will be taking part in the fourth edition of the tournament are Swaziland, Namibia and Mozambique. Damodar said the team has been restructured by calling other players from junior teams. He said the players are gelling both on and off the field.

He said the team will do well despite their poor performance in a tournament in Uganda last year. “The team is showing signs of improvement and there is hope that we will retain the Four nation’s title.”

The team is coached by Innocent Chando. In a related development, the BCA is in the process of reviving the women’s cricket league which had been on hold for some time. Meanwhile, the Under-17 boys team will take part in a Four Nations tournament whichNamibia hosts next month.
