The names of those who survive the vetting will be sent to AIBA for further screening.

BoBA was scheduled to hold its elections last weekend but had to postpone the exercise because the process of screening and submission of profiles of candidates is yet to be done.

The new AIBA statutes stipulate that a person shall not be eligible to be elected to office if he has held any position within or has been affiliated to any professional boxing or professional combat sport organisation.

The statutes indicate that such a person can only be eligible if he had resigned such position at least one year prior to elections.

The statutes came into force in 2011 after approval by the AIBA extraordinary congress.

Following the decision at the congress, all AIBA affiliates amended their constitutions to conform with the new dispensation. BoBA spokesperson, Mmaotho Segotso has said their amended constitution has been approved by the Registrar of Societies and AIBA.

Meanwhile, the list of candidates to be vetted for BoBA office has current president of the association, Michael Moroka and his challenger, Thato Patlakwe.

Moroka was voted to office in 2010 to succeed Aldrin Tayane who did not seek re-election.

Before he got the top post, Moroka served as BoBA vice president in charge of technical affairs.

Gilbert Khunwane and Tabona Phalaze are in the running for the BoBA vice presidency that has been merged into one post.

Previously there were two positions vice presidents - one in charge of technical affairs while the other one dealt with administration.

Willoughby Kemoen, Dirang Thipe and Irene Ntelamo have shown interest in the secretary general’s position, while Johannes Ditlhabang and Phetogo Tsheko will battle it out for the sports coordinator’s post.

Segotso and Kenny Maragana have submitted their names for the position of spokesperson.
