BCP cllr Mosweu sheds mokoko tag?

The outspoken Botswana Congress Party (BCP) councillor announced in the first half of the year that he would contest the elections as an independent candidate citing ill treatment from the party.

Though he has never been elaborate on the ill treatment meted out on him by some party members, sources within the BCP in the area alleged that Mosweu did not want a challenger at the party primaries.

Mosweu, who is in his first term as councillor, ended up not contesting the party primaries late last year.

However, in recent days Mosweu has featured prominently in party activities, which have led observers to comment that he may, after all not contest the elections as an independent.

Over the weekend, clad in BCP green colours, Mosweu was among guests at the launch of BCP elections candidates for Francistown East.

He also graced the launch of BCP Francistown South candidates for the general elections some weeks ago.

“It is highly likely that I will not contest the elections as an independent candidate. I am currently in a reconciliation process with the party.

“Everything is going well between me and the party. However, based on the dynamics of politics I can still contest independently,” Mosweu said when reached for comment yesterday morning.

Yesterday, BCP leader for the Francistown region, Samuel Moribame, said he was happy that Mosweu had decided against ditching the party to go solo at the general polls.

He also said that as a party the BCP strives to keep its members.

“He has never approached me directly to air his concerns about the ill-treatment perpetrated on him by some in the party.

“But from what I heard, he had differences with some party cadres at a ward level and those differences have been sorted out,” Moribame added.
