Venson-Moitoi, who is also the Minister of Education and Skills Development, launched Moswaane over the weekend, with euphoric supporters erupting in rapture as their candidate was paraded.

Moswaane did not contest last year’s by-elections that were eventually won by Hobona after Whyte Marobela, a contestant in the BDP primary elections, challenged the authenticity of the results resulting in the High Court barring Moswaane.

“This constituency belongs to the BDP and I am sure that the electorate in this area belongs to this party. Do not be misled by the BCP as they are losers who do not have plans for you. “Even their manifesto talks about ending government initiatives that we have designed to empower you as Batswana,” she said. Venson-Moitoi said the people of Francistown West know Moswaane’s strength as he has been their councillor for years and they could help mitigate his weaknesses, if he has any, to use him for the development of their constituency and lives.

“This man has been your councillor. You have worked with him. He has been the city mayor and with all that experience we trust him as the BDP to allow him to contest this area for us and we can win it with your support. “I plead with you to win this area for us and continue to vote the leadership of our President, Ian Khama who cares about you,” said Venson-Moitoi.

Prior to addressing party supporters, Moswaane knelt down asked for votes and promised to take their concerns to parliament if voted in. He said that the constituency is faced with problems such as unemployment especially amongst youth and women.

“Illiteracy and poverty plague the constituency and I will make sure I advocate for you just as I did in council,” he said.

Moswaane said Botswana was lagging behind “because opposition parties shoot even good ideas, as long as they come from the BDP”. Speaking at the launch, Letlhakeng West MP, Ngaka Ngaka, accused Hobona of failing to represent the constituency in parliament and said voters should rather trust Moswaane.

“In parliament she keeps on asking about projects that have long been planned for and even shelved due to shortage of funds. Do not vote for her, “ he said.
