Known as the “Battle of the Truckers” the 18-year-old competition, which featured articulated and rigid trucks and buses, tested participants on theory, road, and stationary obstacle courses.

The trucking competition attracted 14 contestants while the bus category had 10 drivers.

The drivers were also gauged according to their responses to real life situations such as fire and rescue, drug and drowsiness, driving economy and environmental conservativeness.The competition attracted several well-known companies such as CA sales, AT&T Monnakgotla, Choppies, Unitrans Botswana and Petrologistics, with all types of vehicles present as the event was not restricted to Scania.

In the trucking category, Unitrans swept all top honours, with Fikile Mathiso grabbing pole position, followed by Emmanuel Mokone and Thabiso Modimokwana.

In the bus drivers’ category, BOTSA Express’ Motsumi Mothowetsho was crowned top driver, followed by Letsweletse Paya of Botswana Defence Force and Kagiso Kgaratsi of AT&T Monnakgotla.

First prize winners received P20,000 in Game vouchers, while second-placed contestants received P10,000 and third-placed, P5,000.  The finalists will go on to compete for a spot in the Southern Africa top finals to be held in South Africa in October.
