In their first ever press statement since they attempted to block the media from reporting on the corruption investigation of Isaac Kgosi, head of Directorate Intelligence Services (DIS) through the courts, the DCEC absolved President Ian Khama from accusations that he is blocking the prosecution of the security chief. Kgosi is a longtime Khama confidante.

Bowing to public pressure and the zeal to restore its credibility, the DCEC may be signaling that it is about to hand over the controversial docket to the DPP.

The Friday DCEC statement indicated that the anti-graft body is disturbed by the suggestion that Khama may be linked to, or is interfering with the investigation of Kgosi.

“In this regard, the DCEC wishes to state that His Excellency is not linked to this investigation, and has not in any way interfered with the investigation. This allegation is therefore false, misleading and most unfortunate,” the DCEC said.

The Manual Workers Union recently told the High Court that they have evidence that investigations on the DIS boss were completed as far back as 2012 but the DCEC had chosen not to hand over the docket to the DPP for prosecution.
