Paramount Chief Raises Alarm On Tlokweng Lands Sales

Addressing residents of Botshabelo and Khayakgolo wards, he said land sales in Tlokweng have escalated in recent times and by 2025, the crisis may result in disputes.

“It is said that this trend has hit our village so hard and it is so unfortunate that farming fields are the ones that are sold to people that don’t even use them for farming,” he lamented.

He pointed out that most of the people who benefit from the land sales are business people, especially those who deal in scrap metals and are in need of a chunk of land that is easily accessible. He said that nowadays, many people who come to his Kgotla to transfer land are in a hurry and do not want to think about the repercussions of what they are doing.

He advised the residents to reserve their land, stressing that those that are no longer able to farm should lease the land rather than selling.

“Land is a pricey commodity that can be given to others temporarily while at the same time, making something out of it,” he advised.

He said selling land could be a suicidal move for both the owner and the village. He told his people to think about the need to preserve their culture because the land they sell often ends up with people from other tribes or foreigners.

Puso announced that they are in the process of requesting for grazing land for residents. Therefore, it is not wise to sell land when the elders are trying to secure more.
