The match involved South Africa Premiership side, Platinum Stars and Selolwane’s club, Gaborone United (GU).

The event was scheduled to take place two years ago, but was postponed because it clashed with the fixtures of the defunct Coca-Cola Cup.

Before the Platinum Stars-GU game on Saturday, Selolwane’s former national teammates played a curtain raiser against a media team.

The former players included Barcos Mosimanegape, Edwin Disang, Seabo Gabanakgosi, Kagiso Tshelametsi and Tebogo Mothusi. Selolwane played for couple of minutes in the first game against the media before he captained GU in the match against Platinum Stars. The event was graced by local sporting officials, former players and South African media personalities.

GU and Platinum Stars played to a 1-1 draw before the South African side won 4-3 on penalties.

GU had the chance to use some of their new signings, Tendai Nyamadzawo and Thabiso Khunwane. Nyamadzawo put GU in the lead, tapping in Selolwane’s cross before Botswana international, Mogakolodi Ngele equalised for the South Africa side in the second half with a stunning shot.

Despite joining GU recently from relegated TAFIC, the lanky Nyamadzawo seemed to combine well with his new teammates.

Khunwane also played for GU for the first time after joining them last week from Mochudi Centre Chiefs. He is expected to strengthen GU’s defence in the coming season as they fight for the league title.
