Batswana invade Durban July

The event, which takes place on the first Saturday of July yearly, was a fashion spectacle to behold as those who attended made it a point to dress up for the occasion.

Although Durban July initially started with horse races, fashion has taken over to assert its place next to the track.

All in all, the entire event is a combination of many things in one and it boasts horse racing, high fashion, elegance and fine cuisine among other things.

Close to 50 Batswana who attended did not get left out as far as fashion is concerned.

Keba Dibe of TRL Travel said she was honoured to host Batswana and take them to Durban July.  Dibe said that it was her second time hosting a group of Batswana.

She revealed that last year in a bid to hype the package to Durban, they had taken the media with so that they could share their experience with Batswana.

She said this year they decided to invite about five media personnel and the majority of the people were first-timers.

As host, she said that she believes that Batswana had fun because the experience was something new and different.

“Although there are always mini-hiccups with trips, overall the crowd enjoyed themselves and made the most of it. People went there for different reasons and I am sure that whatever those reasons were they did accomplish them and had fun at the same time,” said Dibe.

Dibe also stated that using the train from Jo’burg to get to Durban was a good and refreshing experience.  She said that the fact that we don’t have such a train here added more to the fun and experience.
