Scramblers unconvincing ahead of title defence

Scramblers coach, Peter Moswetla has said the team is not convincing and has had poor preparations for the tournament scheduled for the President’s Day holidays.

Most Scramblers are soldiers. Motswetla said very few players are civilians and this disrupts the training programme when those employed by the army are committed at work.

“I do not even have a good number of players coming for training. Sometimes, I get five players.

This is not the kind of preparation a club needs ahead of a big tournament such as the Phikwe Extravaganza. However, we will try our best,” he said.

Scramblers will face Rail Giants, Comets and Carats from the north in the tournament.

Teams from the south are Dinare, BDF XI, Wells and Gatalamotho.

Women clubs participating in the annual tournament are Bears (defending champions), Wells, Dinare, Panthers all from the south while Comets, Carats and Rail Giants are from the north.

Meanwhile, the chairperson of the Phikwe Extravaganza, Oeme Morupisi said preparations for the tournament are at an advanced stage though they are yet to complete the new ground.

The organising committee moved the tournament from the Selebi-Phikwe Senior

Secondary School to the Mowana Diamond Park and the Selebi-Phikwe Technical College grounds.

The champions for both men and women will walk away P50, 000 richer, a 50 percent increase from last year.

The most valuable player, best slugger and fielder will each pocket P1,000.

The sponsorship for the competition stands at P400,000 courtesy of donations from

Komatsu, Bridgestone, Stanlib, Puma Energy and Focus Engineering Solutions.
