Married cops share houses with single colleagues

Defence, Justice and Security Minister, Dikgakgamatso Seretse yesterday told Parliament that an example was at Gaborone West Police Station where at least seven married police households were sharing with unmarried officers.

“These officers are allocated three bedroomed houses for which one room is reserved as a spare room for both families,” he said.

The minister was responding to a question from Gaborone West South Member of Parliament, Botsalo Ntuane, who wanted to know if Seretse was aware of the married police officers’ situation at Gaborone West.

Ntuane also wanted to know what was being done to rectify the situation.  Seretse said the Ministry continues to build houses throughout the country, such as in Block 10 and Letlhakane, as a way of addressing the situation.

“Where we are not building houses, we shall seek suitable houses in the open market for rental,” the minister said.
