Comedy Meets Basketball In Fundraising Drive

The show was staged as one of the ways to raise P60,000 for Troopers Basketball Team to participate in the Zone VI Preliminary Club Basketball Championships later this year.

TLC, which is made up of three young talented members, was formed earlier this year as a venture between Prince ‘Daddy Cheng’ Macheng, Charles Manase and Umbambi ‘Bambino’ Ndiwenyu.

The trio met at the first season of the Soul Food Comedy Roast.  It was then that they decided to form the group, in an effort to promote comedy in Botswana and their individual acts.

Friday night was their second gig as a group and they managed to unleash jokes that left the audience in stitches.

Opening the set was Bambino. The young lad, who was the first winner of Soul Food Comedy, managed to set the mood high with his witty jokes that were accompanied with dance performances.

Although his job for the night was to host, Bambino managed to make the crowd laugh so hard that for some it may have hurt.

Following him was Panashe Santos who also amazed the audience. After Santos Tulani Tau who redefined the meaning of comedy in that one set as he performed jokes in between a bit of singing. The third act of the night was Daddy Cheng, better known as a television presenter.

The young man did not want to be left behind as he also fired hardcore jokes ridiculing real life situations while grabbing people’s attention and leaving them begging for more.

The toast of the night was Manase, with his husky voice. The young man refused to be outshone by his mates as he captivated the audience the moment he held the microphone.  His jokes were inclusive taking along the audience in the journey leading to the punchline.  He left many teary-eyed.  The proud Zimbabwean fired some jokes about his countrymen, was not afraid to poke fun at himself, and made funny contrasts between Botswana and Zimbabwe.  Talking about the similarities and differences of the two countries in a creative way, he left everyone laughing. All this made for very appealing and funny jokes.

Speaking to Showtime, organiser of the event Lebogang Disele said although the turn up for the event was less than what they anticipated, they managed to make a little money for a good cause.

“A comedy show is a win-win situation for everyone as TLC needs a platform to continue to showcase their work and the basketball team needed an event to raise funds for their trip.  Besides that, art and sport have a lot in common and can really benefit a lot from each other,” she said.
