He said that on the fateful day, the house was not locked because the couple felt that the village is safe and they could not be attacked.

Unfortunately, they were assaulted by the culprits who left the woman with an injury on the eye while the husband suffered a head injury.

Konyana said that the robbers were armed with knives and hit their victims in the face and head with a knobkerrie. The couple was treated and discharged from Kanye Seventh Day Adventist Hospital.  The robbers allegedly demanded the keys to the victims’ tuck shop, which was said to be popular in the village.

They handcuffed the couple before proceeding to the tuck shop where they looted airtime worth P3,700 and four cellphones.

They also went away with a white Toyota Hilux, registration number B 387 AAA. Konyana said that the vehicle was later found abandoned at Thamaga.

“We suspect that those culprits abandoned the car because it did not have fuel. When we recovered it, its fuel tank was empty.

“We suspect that the culprits might have fled to Gaborone or nearby villages,” he said. The police have requested members of the public to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the criminals.

Konyana urged the public to be on the lookout for people in possession of many cellphones as they may be the culprits.
