18-year-old murder accused denied bail

The magistrate stated that he committed a house break-in when he was on bail for serious crimes of murder and rape. He will be remanded at Moshupa Boys Prison until his next court appearance on July 17th .

Motanyane and another accused person who was not in court are said to have broken into and entered a dwelling house on June 26th, stealing property worth P19,734.

Amongst the stolen goods were two tents worth P500, a gun worth P2,000 and two boxer shorts.

Opposing the bail application by the accused, Sub-Inspector Tshiamo Montshiwa shocked the court when he revealed that Motanyane committed the said crimes when he was out on bail for murder and rape.

“The accused person should be remanded in court because he has a chain of offences. The young man in another matter before court is facing charges of rape as well as murder,” said Montshiwa.

The prosecutor’s announcement prompted murmurs in the public gallery.

Mmegi has established that in another matter, which is before court, Motanyane and four others are accused of killing Victor Kgosietsile Mosala on October 31, 2013 at Mokgalo ward in Molepolole.

In a separate rape case, Motanyane and others allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl at Lesetheng ward in Molepolole last August.

In both matters Motanyane was granted bail on account that he was a first time offender.
