Sebele to contest as mokoko?

Although he denied reports that he wants to be a mokoko, Sebele said some BDP members are encouraging him to enter the fray as an independent. He said he will not desert the BDP. Besides Sebele, it is said that three other BDP council candidates in Molepolole North who lost primary elections last year are contemplating registering as independents.

The three are alleged to be lobbying other losers to contest independently.

Meanwhile, the BDP Kweneng region chairperson Leo Motlhophi has said they are doing everything in their power to retain the two Molepolole constituencies. Motlhophi said that though they had lost one councillor who resigned to become an independent candidate, they will ensure others do not quit. “I am not aware that there are some members who want to resign from our party.

“My committee had been going around all wards and Kweneng constituencies to reconcile our members. They stated their problems and I believe that things will be back to normal,” said Motlhophi.

He did not deny that some members have been reluctant to campaign for the party due to problems that he declined to disclose.

Molepolole North is among the marginalised constituencies. If Sebele contests as an independent candidate, he will be up against Matlhabaphiri and Mohammed Khan of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).
