Oteng retains top boxing award

 

He beat Kagiso Bagwasi and Mooketsi Lekgetho to the prestigious title. 

The award comes after the boxer scooped two gold last year - at the Zone IV Boxing Championships in Gaborone and the Keone Mooka Mageu Championships. 

He took part in the World Boxing Championships last year and won one bout.

 His rival, Bagwasi also won two gold last year - in the Zone IV Championships in the 64kg category and the National Championships - lost his first fight at the World Boxing Championships.

Lekgetho was a silver medalist at the Zone IV Championships and got gold at the National Championships. 

In other awards, Keneilwe Rakhudu was named the Female Boxer of the Year, beating Pearl Morake and Koketso Dipugiso. 

The promising boxer award in the female category was given to Emily Tshoswane, while Mohammed Otukile scooped the diadem for men.  Otukile’s achievements last year include winning gold at the BISA Boxing Championships and silver at the Best of the Best tournament. 

Former national team boxer, Lechedzani Luza walked away with the Coach of the Year award after his club, UB, won the Keone Mooka Mageu Championships last year. 

Luza was nominated alongside Dinners Sikele of BMC Boxing Club and Thebe Setlalekgosi of Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB). 

Otlhamile Gaolefufa won the Referee of the Year award, while Gaone Motshwanaesi was named the Administrator of the Year. 

DTCB claimed the Affiliate of the Year award.
